The laboratory mouse is one of the most popular mammalian model systems in biomedical research.
My lab is interested in deciphering development and disease mechanisms with genetic and cell biology methods in mice. Through close collaborations with other faculty members at IDM, we have generated a pool of more than 5,000 mutants with the mammalian piggyBac (PB) transposon system during the past several years.
We are now screening mutants with obesity and related metabolic defects from this resource to understand the underlying pathophysiological, cellular, and molecular mechanisms.
My BIOS module will focus on teaching students how to perform mice genotyping, which is the must-master technique in mouse genetics.
